Lille and our tour to Frommelles

One of many memorials in and around Fromelles remembering soldiers from WW1.

After 3 beautiful snow filled days in Colmar, we moved onto Lille. We only had one full day to spend in this area and we had a full itinerary. We hired another car and drove from Lille to Frommelles and visited the sites where The Battle of Frommelles took place in WWI (19th – 20th July, 1916), where Mike’s Grandfather had fought.

New Years Eve in Paris and so much more….

We had all agreed that it would be rather special to celebrate the New Year in Paris and so we allocated 5 days to this fabulous city to do a little sight seeing but mainly just enjoy ‘living Paris’. We caught the train which took 3 hours. We had all been here a couple of times ...

Colmar, France and surrounding towns….

The street and park were beautifully covered in white

From Interlaken we caught the train to Colmar in France. The train is a great way of travelling through these parts of Europe for that matter especially in the winter where the chances of flights being affected by snow is likely. We arrived by midday and very conveniently our hotel, Hotel Bristol was located just across the road from the station

Nice and all the Nice surrounding areas…

Pete and Nick in front of one of many many amazing boats on the French Riviera

With Pete’s brother Nick Ockleshaw making a trip to Europe, we decided to meet him somewhere for a few days, preferably where the sun was still shining. After lengthy discussions, we all agreed on spending a few nights in Nice and then hiring a car so that we could venture around the French Riviera through the days.

Paris, France. The worlds most visited city…. for good reason

Macaroons (fancy biscuits) and French Champayne is a recommended combination.

Paris is a place that you can visit time and time again and although we had both visited this amazing city in 2004, we were both excited about spending 5 days there to see the sights again and enjoy the Parisian lifestyle too. It is the worlds most visited city, or so we’ve heard, and for good reason…

San Sebastian and Biarritz – A nice combination of Pinxtos and Crepes

The shopping strip of Santander

Still in search of some European sun, we booked our next trip to Biarritz. We were going to spend a week on the beaches there and enjoy another part of France. However two days before we were scheduled to depart, we were advised by Ryan Air that our flight had been cancelled due to France Air Strikes. Not wanting to forego our accommodation, we made some changes and decided to fly into Santander, travel by bus through San Sebastian for a night and then onto Biarritz for the rest of the week.
