USA Road Trip – Beginning in Colorado

Our Mobile Home for the next 30days

From the beaches of Central America we embarked on something that perhaps is more for the older folks than us but a way to travel that we thought would be so much fun. We hired a Recreational Vehicle (RV) through Cruise America and drove around the US. Below is our home on wheels.

Mexico – Playa del Carmen

Cancun is bustling with shops, restaurants, bars and huge hotels

Deciding to indulge in a little more R&R on the beach, we flew from Costa Rica to Cancun, hired a car and made our way to Playa Del Carmen. We hadn’t booked any accommodation on arrival in Cancun but we were quickly advised by the Tourist Helpdesk to look for places that were ‘All Inclusive’. All inclusive is basically a rate that covers accommodation, all meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks) and all drinks (tea, coffee, juices, soft drinks, beers, wines and fabulous cocktails).

Central America – Costa Rica – Manuel Antonio

This bloke can surf - clean waves and a water temp that kept him there all day

After 3 action packed days in Monterverde we decided that another stint at the beach would be ideal. We had heard many travellers along the way talk about a place called Manuel Antonio so we arranged a shuttle to take us there from Montervede. Leaving at 8am, the drive took just under 4 hours.

Central America – Costa Rica – Monteverde

Having spent two very chilled out days in El Salvador, we arranged another bus to take us to Costa Rica. This bus ride was an 18 hour trip in total, and involved a private shuttle from El Salvador to San Salvador and then we boarded a Kings Quality Bus (one of two bus services that go there – this one is cheapest) and travelled through Nicaragua and onto Costa Rica.

Central America – Guatemala and El Salvador

From Miami we headed to Central America. Guatemala was our first step although in hind sight we should have probably gone to Costa Rica first and then made our way north, it would have been logistically easier that’s all. We didn’t know much, nothing in fact about Guatemala but we quickly worked out that a nice place to visit was Antigua….
