Mexico – Playa del Carmen
Deciding to indulge in a little more R&R on the beach, we flew from Costa Rica to Cancun, hired a car and made our way to Playa Del Carmen. We hadn’t booked any accommodation on arrival in Cancun but we were quickly advised by the Tourist Helpdesk to look for places that were ‘All Inclusive’. All inclusive is basically a rate that covers accommodation, all meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks) and all drinks (tea, coffee, juices, soft drinks, beers, wines and fabulous cocktails).
Central America – Costa Rica – Monteverde
Having spent two very chilled out days in El Salvador, we arranged another bus to take us to Costa Rica. This bus ride was an 18 hour trip in total, and involved a private shuttle from El Salvador to San Salvador and then we boarded a Kings Quality Bus (one of two bus services that go there – this one is cheapest) and travelled through Nicaragua and onto Costa Rica.
Central America – Guatemala and El Salvador
From Miami we headed to Central America. Guatemala was our first step although in hind sight we should have probably gone to Costa Rica first and then made our way north, it would have been logistically easier that’s all. We didn’t know much, nothing in fact about Guatemala but we quickly worked out that a nice place to visit was Antigua….
