Overland Safari 2 – Botswana

5.30am and this lovely creature crossed the road on our way to Chobe NP

The Botswana Diary …

Day 15: Waking at 5.30am, we jumped on a safari 4×4 and drove into Chobe National Park. The game drive however had started well before we entered the gates. Just as the sun was coming up we were lucky to see some beautiful elephants on the side of the main road. By 6am we had entered the gates and spent the next 3.5 hours in hope of seeing more cats. However it wasn’t to be. Not that we are complaining as there were plenty of hippos in Chobe River, so many impala and warthog, banded mongoose, chapma baboons, ground squirrels, giraffe, crocodiles, buffalo and plenty of different bird species. At this point everyone was probably too spoilt because although this is a huge amount of wildlife in one morning, we had really hoped to see Lions or Leopards (N.B there are no rhinos in Chobe NP).

THE TANZANIAN DIARY….

Day 20: Early start this morning, we departed at 4.30am en route back to Kigale where we said goodbye to some of the crew who had only joined us for the Gorilla Trek. We then had a full day driving and crossed the border and by late afternoon we were in Tanzania. Overnight was spent in Sayari Guest House. We have no idea where we got the energy from but even after such an early start, the crew were up for a few drinks and then someone started us off with Karaoke… Singing The Gambler. Many others were keen to take the microphone after that…

Overland Safari 1 – departs from Kenya

We initially chose Absolute Africa because this route. They were the only truck that drove through below Lake Victoria through Tanzania.

Our first Overland Safari was a 32 day tour through Eastern Africa. We travelled from Kenya through to Uganda, onto Rwanda and finished with a week in Tanzania – our last stop being the beautiful Zanzibar. We averaged about a week in each country and although there were some long drive days, our itinerary was jam packed with game drives, nature walks, adrenaline junkie activities, relaxation and many funny moments with our fellow travellers.

Nairobi, Kenya (Intro to Eastern Africa)

Eastern Africa

Having experienced a freezing European winter we were excited to go somewhere warmer and that somewhere was our 6th continent on our journey – AFRICA!

We flew directly (8hours) from London to Kenya‘s capital, Nairobi in Eastern Africa in mid January in between the short rainy season in November & the long rains in March through to May. We welcomed the 30 degree heat.
