Zanzibar – Our two week hiatus on the beach…
In our last post, we had just arrived at Kendwa Beach in the north west coast of Zanzibar, near Nungwi, having spent the morning looking around Stone Town.

Walking through charming Stone Town, there are plenty of shops and tours to select, that cater for the Tourist... Shop around for the best deal is our advice.

Meeting the host of Sunset Bar at The African House led to a personal invitation to meet her monkey.... Its a little sykes monkey (relation to the vervet) and loved the interaction.
Once on the beach we were trying to decide if we would travel around the island or just stay put for two weeks. After talking to a few other travellers and seeing some pictures of other beaches on Zanzibar we were (and still are) convinced that Kendwa beach was definitely the nicest beach of the island, so we decided to unpack and relax.

Kendwa Beach is stunning. The water is beautiful and you don't have to walk too far out to be fully submerged
So there is not a huge amount to say about this time other than it was a welcome rest from camping. We still had some company as a couple of our friends from the Overland Tour had also decided to stay – Marlene and Rainer from Austria and Barry and Holly from Ireland.
We have to say that the days went by quickly once we had reserved our lounge beds, eaten breakfast and then spent the entire day chilling out on the white sands and swimming in crystal blue waters. Occasionally we would have a game of volleyball. We also went for one scuba dive and then snorkeled a few times as well but that was about it.

Our morning started with Fresh Fruit and then Eggs and Toast.. It was good but after two weeks of the same.... WELL?

Mostly we just lay on this beautiful beach, reading, talking, snoozing and swimming when the heat got too much....
Really the only decision the 6 of us would make each day was which restaurant we should go to for dinner and what time we should meet.

At night the Resorts would occasionally have entertainment... This was an Acrobatic Show at Sunset Bungalows... but mostly it was this guy showing us how he was double-jointed just about everywhere....
Our time here felt completely indulgent but was just what we needed before boarding our 2nd Overland Safari.

Over two weeks we had the most perfect weather, no rain just clear skies, crystal blue waters and amazing sunsets...
We did also make our way back to Stone Town for a day to do the Spice Tour and it was well worth it. The tour takes place in the countryside about 30 minutes from town. Apart from spelling beautiful fresh lemongrass, cinnamon and nutmeg, you also get to sample some fresh tropical fruits and learn how the residents of Zanzibar uses these spices not only for cooking , but also for medicinal purposes and basic hygiene.
With two days remaining before our next tour, we got back on the ferry and spent two days in Dar es Salaam making sure we had everything ready….
